Leather exports from India up by 33%
India’s Council for Leather Export (CLE) has reported export revenues for the industry of $4.4 billion in the first 11 months of the 2021-2022 financial year. The 11-month period is from April 2021 to February 2022.
This is one-third up on the figure for the same period a year earlier.
Leather footwear contributed more than $1.8 billion to the total, leathergoods, $1.1 billion, finished leather $411 million, leather garments $321 million and equestrian leather products $250 million. These figures represent increases of 39%, 37%, 22%, 15% and 52% respectively, year on year.
CLE has a target of taking the sector’s full-year export revenues to $10 billion by 2025-2026.
