Export demand for US beef keeps increasing

09/05/2022

The US Meat Export Federation (USMEF) has reported shipments of beef of more than 350,000 tonnes in the first quarter of 2022, bringing in revenues of more than $3 billion.

Compared to the same quarter last year, these figures represent an increase of 6% in volume and of 41% in value.

Commenting on the figures, USMEF chief executive, Dan Halstrom, said: “Global demand for US beef has eclipsed anything I have seen in many years in the meat business. While this momentum is fuelled by mainstay markets such as South Korea, Japan and Taiwan, demand is also very strong in China and key Latin American markets, while exports to the Middle East have rebounded impressively.”

Mr Halstrom noted that the first-quarter figures do not reflect recent covid-19 restrictions in China and warned that these would affect figures for the second quarter of the year.
