LHCA policy meeting takes place in Washington DC
The Leather and Hide Council of America (LHCA) held its spring 2022 board of directors and policy meeting in Washington DC from April 27-29. World Leather was the meeting’s sponsor.
An executive committee meeting took place on the first afternoon, followed by business sessions on April 28, covering hide traceability, shipping issues, and trade and market updates. Other sessions focused on regulatory matters, labelling and the leather industry’s relationship with non-profit group the Sustainable Apparel Coalition, which set up the Higg MSI sustainability index to allow brands to compare the environmental performance of different materials.
There was also an update on the management of LHCA and an election to choose new committee members.
Sessions on April 29 had marketing and sustainability as their main themes, with guest presentations from PrimeAsia’s chief sustainability officer, Fernando Bellese, on the Leather Naturally campaign, and from the chief executive of the North American Meat Institute, Julie Anna Potts, on possible partnerships with LHCA.
