Double-digit growth goes on for US hide exports
Official figures show that in the first two months of 2022, US tanners, packers and traders exported almost 5.6 million hides. Of these, just under 5 million were wet-salted and 600,000 were wet blue.
In volume terms, the combined total is 27% higher than the figure for the same months in 2021. Wet-salted’s volume growth is 30% and wet blue’s is 10%.
Overall, these hide exports brought in revenues of $217.7 million in January and February this year, an increase of 29% year on year.
Wet-salted hides brought in $154.3 million, up by 34%, while wet blue hides increased their export value by 19%, reaching $63.4 million.
In the first two months of this year, wet-salted hides from the US had an average value in export markets of $31.10, up from $30.09. The average price of wet blue hides was $105.80, up from $97.94 a year earlier.
