CICB celebrates 65 years
Brazil’s national tanning industry body CICB is celebrating its sixty-fifth anniversary in 2022.
CICB’s efforts to promote Brazilian leather in domestic and overseas markets will continue.
Its member companies represent more than 75% of the Brazilian industry, by production volume. Brazil’s total production is around 40 million hides per year and it exports leather to customers in more than 80 countries.
Executive president, José Fernando Bello, said the industry had gone through “a tremendous evolution” since CICB was set up in 1957, at a time when Brazil exported no leather.
He said there had also been extensive progress over the 65 years in technological development, professional qualifications for people working in the industry and projects to add value to leather.
“In the last decade,” Mr Bello pointed out, “there have been very strong developments in sustainability.”
