Drop in volume but rise in value for Brazilian leather exports
Brazilian tanning industry association CICB has published hides and leather export figures for the first two months of 2022, showing total export revenues for the two months of $211.5 million. This figure is 2% up on the total for the same two months in 2021.
In terms of volume, however, numbers were down. CICB said tanners and traders from Brazil exported 23.6 million square-metres of finished and semi-processed leather. This constitutes a decline of 22.7% year on year.
Finished leather accounted for 57% of the value of January and February exports, followed by wet blue with 26.2% and crust with 9.5%.
With regard to volume, finished leather’s share was 50.2%, wet blue’s was 29.7% and crust’s was 8.6%.
