Jamaican roots tie Raheem Sterling to Clarks
Manchester City and England national team attacker Raheem Sterling has agreed to become a global ambassador for footwear brand Clarks.
The brand’s chief marketing officer, Tara McRae, said the footballer was “the perfect partner for us”. She pointed out that his Jamaican roots were important in this, saying that there was a “unique connection” between Clarks and the people of the Caribbean country.
Raheem Sterling spent his early years in Jamaica before moving to England and he has said he developed an affinity for Clarks at a young age.
At the time of the announcement, he said: “Jamaican culture still plays a huge part in my life and there is not a shoe or brand that can come close to Clarks in Jamaica. To me, Clarks represents culture and that’s why I wanted to work with the brand.”
A first Raheem Sterling-Clarks range of shoes will launch in July.
