Burberry aims to be the best employer in luxury for women
Leathergoods brand Burberry celebrated International Women’s Day on March 8 by announcing that it will provide further skills and literacy support to young people and making a commitment to be “the best place to work for women in the luxury industry”.
It said it wanted to continue a legacy of “championing women who have shaped our past, supporting women today to push the boundaries of possibility and helping the next generation create a more equitable and inclusive world”.
Its new pledge of support will help two charity organisations in the UK, the National Literacy Trust and The Prince’s Trust Women Supporting Women initiatives. It said this will build on work to help improve young people’s literacy skills that it began in November 2021.
Specifically, it will provide a pack of 12 books to students at ten participating schools.
To help it meet its ambition of becoming the best place in the industry for women to work, it will launch specialist advice, counselling and other resources for colleagues experiencing menopause, as well as to their partners and family members.
Burberry has also said it will broaden its talent pipeline through leadership development programmes, funding creative arts scholarships and investing in mentorship, particularly to elevate diverse women leaders.
