Bangladesh leather industry exports are well ahead of growth target

Bangladesh’s leather industry earned export revenues of $682.7 million during the first seven months of the current financial year, the period from July 2021 to January 2022. This represents an increase of close to 30% compared to the same period a year earlier.

Exports of leather footwear brought in $414.5 million over the seven-month period, an increase of 25% year on year, while shipments of leathergoods earned $183.4 million, an increase of 37.4%. The figure for finished leather exports was $63.5 million, up by 33%. 

Bangladesh’s export promotions agency has set the leather industry an export target for this fiscal year of just over $1 billion, which would represent growth of 9.5%.
