Early start for new Burberry CEO
London-based leathergoods and fashion group Burberry has announced that its new chief executive, Jonathan Akeroyd, will take up the position sooner than planned.
Burberry announced in October that Mr Akeroyd would be its new chief executive, replacing Marco Gobbetti. Mr Gobbetti has returned to his native Italy to head up Ferragamo. Mr Akeroyd is to make a similar journey in reverse, returning to the UK from Versace.
Originally, Burberry said it would be April 2022 before Jonathan Akeroyd started work there, but it has now announced that it will bring the start-date forward by two weeks. Mr Akeroyd will, therefore, begin his new role on March 15.
