November beef exports set new US record
US beef brought in a record export value for the month of November, $1.05 billion. This was the second time this year the beef sector has set a new monthly record, following August’s figure of $1.04 billion. The November figure also indicated an increase of 49% year on year.
Cumulative figures for the first 11 months of 2021 show a total value of almost $9.6 billion for beef exports, a rise of 39% year on year.
In terms of volume, meat companies exported more than 123,000 tonnes of beef in November, an increase of 7% compared to the same month the previous year.
Between January and November 2021, beef export volumes exceeded 1.3 million tonnes, up by 16% year on year.
Commenting on the figures, the resident of the US Meat Export Federation, Dan Halstrom, said he was pleased with the record-breaking figures, but warned that there were still obstacles to further growth for the meat industry in the US.
Mr Halstrom said: “With one month of results still to be tabulated, it’s very gratifying to see red meat exports setting new records and achieving remarkable growth. Global demand for US red meat has never been stronger, but labour and transportation obstacles and high input costs across the supply chain make it increasingly difficult to satisfy this demand.”
