Hide exports from the US surpass $1 billion in first nine months
US hide exports increased substantially in volume and in value in the first nine months of 2021.
Between January and September this year, tanners, traders and packers shipped a total of 27.6 million hides, which brought in export revenues of just over $1 billion.
Compared to the same period in 2020, this represents an increase of 58.6% in volume and of 67.5% in value.
Of the total so far this year, 24.3 million were wet-salted hides, which had a value of $722.1 million. These figures represent growth for wet-salted of 59% in volume and of 72% in value.
Figures for wet blue showed shipments of 3.3 million hides over the nine-month period, earning revenues of $336 million, growth of 60% in volume and in value.
