Tanners in Turkey complain of steep chemicals price increases
Tanners in Turkey have complained that the cost of leather chemicals has increased to such an extent in recent months as to represent now between 20% and 30% of their total production costs.
In the recent past, they attributed a 15% to 20% share of total production costs to chemicals.
Many products have increased in price by 50% and some by 100%. Fatliquors, polymers, resins and finishing auxiliaries are among the products most affected.
According to the tanners, their footwear and garment industry customers are resisting any increase in the price of finished leather.
