Gold rating gives Smit & Zoon “reward and encouragement”

Evidence-based assessment platform EcoVadis has awarded a gold rating to leather chemicals group Royal Smit & Zoon, putting it in the top 7% of companies the organisation has rated.

EcoVadis’s methodology assesses the quality of a company’s corporate social responsibility management system, focusing on the environment, labour practices, human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement.

Grouped into these themes, assessments cover 21 different issues with criteria based on international sustainability standards including the Global Compact Principles, International Labour Organisation (ILO) conventions, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standard, the ISO 26000 standard, and the CERES principles.

Smit & Zoon chief executive, Hans van Haarst, said the gold rating was “a great reward” for the work the group has done in these areas and would, at the same time, offer it encouragement to make further improvements in future.
