September shut-downs for GM as shortages hit hard
Automotive group General Motors (GM) has announced halts in production at plants in the US, Mexico and Canada.
In total eight factories will close in the course of the month for two weeks each. Factories affected are plants that make pick-up trucks and SUVs; brands whose vehicles will be suffer delays include Chevrolet, Buick and Cadillac.
GM said the temporary closures were necessary because of an ongoing, industry-wide shortage of semiconductors.
In recent weeks, Toyota and Ford have announced production downtimes too.
