Automotive breakthrough for LWG
Bentley Motors has become the first automotive manufacturer to become a member of multi-stakeholder body the Leather Working Group (LWG).
Almost 200 brands and retailers have come members of LWG since its protocol for assessing and promoting best practice in the leather supply chain was launched in 2007, but Bentley is the first from the automotive industry.
At the time of the announcement, Bentley’s head of production purchasing, Mark Cooke, said: “The use of leather and coachbuilding are hallmarks of our 100-year history. Our cutters and trimmers are experts in their fields and the fact that so many of our heritage models still exist with their original interiors demonstrates the longevity of leather as a core material to us. As the first automotive member of the LWG, we look forward to working with the group to actively shape the future of sustainably sourced leather in our sector.”
LWG programme manager, Christina Trautmann, said: “We are thrilled to have Bentley on board. This is a positive first step for the automotive sector to address challenges within its material supply chain.”
