Cautious UK expansion plans for Deichmann

Footwear group Deichmann has conservative ambitions to grow its business in the UK. It currently has 109 stores there.

This is far fewer than its footprint in its home market, Germany, where it has more than 1,000 stores, but also behind smaller markets such as Switzerland and the Netherlands, in each of which it has nearly 200.

Samuel Deichmann, great-grandson of the company’s founder and a member of its executive board, recently told the Financial Times that the footwear group sees a lot of potential in the UK market and wants to be the market leader in family footwear there.

He said the company did not want to do “anything reckless”, but he suggested Deichmann could double its number of UK stores in the medium term. “The market offers great opportunities for us,” he added.
