Germany’s automotive industry association, VDA, has reported that domestic car production and exports fell in July after four consecutive months of growth.

In July 236,400 new passenger cars were registered in Germany, 25% down on the figure for the same month last year.

So far this year, there have been 1.6 million new car registrations in Germany, 7% up on the first seven months of 2020, but down by 25% compared to the same period in 2019. “The German passenger car market is still a long way from its pre-crisis level,” VDA said.
New registrations of electric vehicles reached 55,650 units, 23.5% of the total. This figure was 55% higher than the total for EVs in July 2020.

Production at German automotive plants was of 246,600 passenger cars, down by 25% year on year. During the first seven months of this year, production has reached almost 2 million cars, up by 9%.

Exports in July were of 172,200 cars, down by 27% year on year, but the total exports for the year so far, 1.5 million cars, shows an increase of 11%.
