Long-service honours for Pittards people

Senior representatives of the livery company (ancient City of London guild) for glovemakers travelled to Yeovil in Somerset on July 28 to help leather manufacturer Pittards pay tribute to some of its newest and longest-serving employees.

Current master of the Worshipful Company of Glovers, Richard Morris, led the delegation, which honoured the leather manufacturer’s newest cohort of apprentices, employees who have worked there for 25 years and two, Diana Turton and Chris Shead, who have each worked at Pittards for longer than 50 years.

After the presentation, Pittards chief executive, Reg Hankey, said: “People have always been at the heart of this 200-year-old business. We are proud to be able to perpetuate the skills that make Pittards leather so valued by major brands and be able to create employment through apprenticeships. We will be looking to create at least ten further apprenticeships in the coming year.”
