Accessories brand Burberry says it has made “an excellent start” to its new fiscal year. It has reported revenues for the quarter ending June 26, 2021, of £479 million, an increase of 86% compared to the same quarter a year ago.

Outgoing chief executive, Marco Gobbetti, said on announcing the results: “We saw strong growth across our strategic categories, in particular leathergoods and outerwear. Despite the continuing challenging external environment, we are very pleased with the progress against our strategy.”

Burberry said it had succeeded in attracting new, local, young customers to buy products at full price across its core categories.
