French tanners combine to launch online buyers’ platform

French tanning industry association FFTM has launched a new online marketplace for designers and leather buyers, calling it the French Leather Marketplace.

On announcing the development, FFTM said: “The methods for presenting and selecting materials for use in the fashion industry are in a state of flux. Tanners of hides and small skins in France want to be in step with the creative needs of their customers and to offer them a continuous flow of new ideas.”

It said the French Leather Marketplace would be “a unique tool for fashion industry professionals sourcing high-quality leather”.

FFTM explained that the platform would give buyers direct access to tanners and would host the details of 230 leather articles available to buyers immediately. It will also present two seasonal preview collections of leather per year using the French Leather Marketplace platform.

Access to the information will be free, but will be limited to professional buyers, designers and leather artisans. Twenty-seven French leather manufacturers have already signed up to use it as a means of showcasing their leather collections.
