Bags made from reconditioned aircraft leather sell out

A bag manufacturer based 100 kilometres west of Ottawa, Mariclaro, has had to post the ‘sold out’ sign on its website for its VIE+ bag. It began making the bag several years ago out of repurposed leather collected from Air Canada aircraft seats.

Glasgow-based leather manufacturer Muirhead, the supplier of the leather to Air Canada, said it came as no surprise that the material had lasted well enough on aircraft seats to serve this new purpose after the airline had refurbished the interiors of its aircraft.

Muirhead said its leather was made to last, adding: “It doesn’t lose its beauty, even after the seven-year warranty we provide to our customers.”
