Renewable feedstock at the heart of new Stahl portfolio
Leather chemicals group Stahl has launched Ympact, a new portfolio of products made from renewable feedstocks.
Its first Ympact products are polyurethanes for base- and topcoats in leather finishing that are up to 70% derived from biomass feedstock and carbon-captured CO2. Stahl said this would help tanneries reduce their environmental footprint without compromising on quality or performance.
This initial range comprises seven products; the company has said it will add a further two later in 2021.
Global market director for leather chemicals, Joachim Henkmann, said the launch of Stahl Ympact underlined the group’s commitment to responsible chemistry and to supporting the leather industry in reducing its environmental footprint. “This renewable carbon product portfolio will enable our customers to embrace sustainability, seize new commercial opportunities, and enter new markets,” he said.
He said Stahl would continue to work towards “the defossilisation of the leather industry”, by providing renewable feedstock-based solutions for operations from beamhouse to finishing.
