Royal visit certain to be a highlight of Smit & Zoon anniversary
Leather chemicals group Smit & Zoon has said an official visit to its headquarters in Weesp by Queen Máxima of the Netherlands on May 26 was a success and certain to be a highlight of its 200th anniversary celebrations this year.
Queen Máxima received a guided tour of the site and listened to detailed presentations about circularity in the leather value chain, the importance of education and knowledge-sharing, the group’s Zeology tanning concept (which it has described as a sustainable, chrome-free alternative to existing tanning systems), and its 200 years of family tradition and entrepreneurship.
Smit & Zoon chief executive, Hans van Haarst, said that the visit had provided “a great opportunity for dialogue” with Queen Máxima on creating circularity in the leather industry in particular, and in the fashion sector more widely. He said it had been an honour to host the royal visitor.
