Market Intelligence: replenishment wave hopes

The latest edition of our exclusive insight report, Leatherbiz Market Intelligence, is now available for subscribers to read in the ‘Intelligence’ section of the website.

In this new report, we learn that most of the spring-summer fashion season for this year has gone already before it really began, although there could still be “a short flurry” for seasonal products, if these are available to buy.

However, what the report calls “a big replenishment wave” should come after the summer holidays, with the focus switching back from outdoor life and holidays to traditional product consumption.

It says leather manufacturers who serve the footwear and accessories markets are relatively optimistic about this because “they feel things could not get any worse”.

Tanners who make leather for the furniture market have had a good run of results, but the report says many of them now fear the market may be saturated.

Furniture manufacturers could come back for more as part of what the report calls “a big replenishment wave should come after the summer holidays”. If they do, though, they will face a string of constraints, including a leather price that is “expected to rise significantly”. Apart from that, they will also find wood and foam more difficult to source.
