Nothing To Hide: updated version of essay three now available

World Leather’s programme of updating the Nothing To Hide essays continues in the April-May issue of the magazine.

A new version of essay three, ‘Action to keep the leather value chain deforestation-free’, is in the magazine and is now available to read on the nothing-to-hide.org. The Nothing To Hide essays have always been available to read and share under open access on the series’ dedicated website.

As the title suggests, this third essay concentrates on the work that companies in the meat and leather sector are carrying out, and have been for years, to combat deforestation in sensitive areas.

The intention of this essay is not to pretend that livestock production and the use of its by-products to make leather have no impact on the environment or that all claims of links to deforestation, greenhouse gas emissions and poor working conditions are false. Instead, it aims to show that important producers and different stakeholders are aware of the importance of developing the sector in a sustainable way and have been working for years now to achieve this aim.
