Royal visit for Smit & Zoon
Queen Máxima of the Netherlands will pay a formal visit to the headquarters of leather chemicals group Smit & Zoon to mark the company’s 200th anniversary.
The royal visit to the Smit & Zoon facility at Weesp, near Amsterdam, will take place on May 26. Hosted by seventh-generation owner, Marc Smit, Queen Máxima will receive an introduction to the business and its 200-year history. Mr Smit will emphasise the group’s work to make the leather industry more sustainable.
Technical manager, Dirick von Behr, will then explain details of the leather-making process to the royal visitor.
Chief executive, Hans van Haarst, will then offer information about leather and the circular economy, including work Smit & Zoon is doing to promote circular thinking among leather manufacturers. And finally Daniëlle Okkinga-Koenen, global director of marketing and communication, will talk about the work the the group does to support education as a means of driving improvement in the leather industry.
Smit & Zoon formally launched exactly 200 years ago, in May 1821.
