Artisans link up for leather lamp-shade project
Toulouse-based interior designer Pierre Cabrera has launched a new range of ceiling lamp-shades in calf leather, the result of a partnership with artisan leathergoods brand O’Nolan and Basque tannery Rémy Carriat.
Called Tulip40 Cuir, the collection comprises tulip-shaped shades in full-grain, bull-calf leather with a semi-aniline finish from Rémy Carriat. The products are available in four colours: orange, gold, claret and chocolate. They have a diameter of 38 centimetres and weigh 1.5 kilos each.
O’Nolan, based near Carcassone, is a leathergoods brand founded by daughter-and-father team Amalvi and Robert Pimenta. Amalvi Pimenta said she had formed a friendship with Pierre Cabrera thanks to their shared artisan background and outlook. She added that an invitation to work with him on a version of his Tulip lamp-shades using “a noble, natural, warm, living and unique material such as leather” had been too good to turn down.
She said she had chosen a particular leather from Rémy Carriant for its natural grain, hand-feel, flexibility, smoothness, unique silky touch, its durability and its “wonderful elegant nuances”. She described it as a remarkable and rare article.
