Tanners in Turkey to answer gelatine demand

04/03/2021

A number of leather manufacturers in Turkey have announced plans to open their own gelatine factories as demand for gelatine from lime splits from bovine hides picks up.

While extensive gelatine production from pig-skins is well established in Europe and North America, demand for gelatine from bovine sources has increased from the food industry in Muslim countries.

To meet this demand, sources in Turkey say at least three new factories for making gelatine from lime splits are in development. Tanners in Gonen, Gerede and Tuzla are all in the process of setting these operations up.
