Mixed news on the fair front

Assomac, the organiser of Simac Tanning Tech, has confirmed that that 2021 edition of the event will go ahead, with the previously mentioned shift from the first quarter of the year to the third quarter.

Simac Tanning Tech 2021will take place in Milan from September 22 to 24 this year. It will be a face-to-face exhibition, Assomac has insisted, with all necessary health precautions in place.

The organiser has told leatherbiz that it has not yet made a decision about 2022 regarding the timing of Simac Tanning Tech. It could return to a February date in 2022 or its move to the autumn could become permanent.

The news about the Fimec exhibition in Novo Hamburgo is less positive. The 2021 edition of the Brazilian exhibition was originally scheduled to take place from March 9-11. In December, however, the organisers said they were moving the event to new dates in May, owing to covid-19.

Now the Fimec organisers have said they will be unable to run the exhibition in 2021 and that Fimec will next take place from March 8-10 in 2022.

They said: “In recent weeks, contrary to expectations, the situation with the pandemic in Brazil has worsened considerably; we have never come so close to the collapse of the national public health system. We still have serious health problems and restrictions on national and international travel.”

The Fimec organisers said they believed in-person events were “essential for doing good business”, but that it acknowledged the importance of making sure fairs are safe.
