Shanghai CAR symposium to go ahead

Professor Ferdinand Dudenhöffer, who runs the University of Duisburg-Essen’s Centre for Automotive Research (CAR), has confirmed that 2021 CAR-Symposium in China will go ahead in Shanghai on April 19 and 20.

Organisers expect 500 visitors and 40 partner companies to take part in the symposium, which will be a hybrid event with online participants, as well as those attending in person. The venue will be the Sofitel in the Minhang district, near Hongqiao airport.

Confirming that the event will go ahead, Professor Dudenhöffer pointed out that Germany's largest carmakers currently generate 38% of their international sales in China. “There is a continuing upward trend,” he said, adding that, at current growth-rates, the main German original equipment manufacturers will sell almost 9 million vehicles per year in China, compared to 5.4 million in 2020.

“The covid-19 crisis has hit the global automotive market enormously,” he said. “China is recovering faster than any country in the world.”
