University to run online leather course again after “huge success”

The University of Northampton’s Institute for Creative Leather Technologies (ICLT) has announced that an online leather training course it launched at the start of this year has been such as success it will run the course again, starting in May.

ICLT’s online Foundations of Leather Technology Course began in January with the institute’s director, Rachel Garwood, describing it as ideal for people new to the leather industry or those already working in the leather value chain who want to increase their knowledge and understanding of the material.

It’s an introductory, pre-degree course, but it looks at every step of the leather-making process. Sessions have run every Wednesday for 90 minutes on the university’s Collaborate web-based platform and the course takes 12 weeks to complete.

Ms Garwood said the first edition of the course had been “a huge success” and that this had motivated ICLT to set up a second edition, which will start on May 12. The cost is £500 for representatives of companies and £300 for students.
