Leatherbiz Market Intelligence: short new-year break for China’s tanners

A new issue of Leatherbiz Market Intelligence is out, including, as always, our exclusive fortnightly Leather Pipeline report and its analysis of the leather value chain. The newsletter is available for subscribers to read on the website.

On this occasion, we learn that the halt in operations in China for the Lunar New Year holiday is likely to be shorter than in previous years. There are two main reasons for this.

One is that fewer workers have travelled to their home towns and villages for the holiday owing to fears about a resurgence in covid-19 cases. Secondly, order-books at the tanneries are quite full and furniture manufacturers and automotive interior suppliers need to keep the flow of finished leather going.

Once again, the newsletter also includes a lengthier article in the Long Read component. We offer another feature from the December-January issue of World Leather, one of two articles in this issue of the magazine that provide deep-dive analysis of the Ecotan project that Silvateam has launched. The specialist leather chemicals manufacturer’s aim is to put in place all the pieces required for making leather “completely sustainable”.
