FILK says Leather Days 2021 will go ahead

Leather research body FILK has announced that its Leather Days conference will go ahead in 2021, with June 9 and 10 as the dates.

FILK has described the event as a hybrid of online and in-person and has guaranteed that it will go out live.

The organisation has taken an important step to increase the chance of some speakers and delegates being able to take part in person. It will hold Leather Days not in Freiberg, where the institution is based, but 40 kilometres away in Chemnitz.

It will use Chemnitz city congress hall as the venue, explaining that if distance-rules remain in place in June, this building will accommodate more people than the facilities at FILK would allow.

“Virtually, there are almost no limits,” the organisation said, and it encouraged potential speakers to think of ideas to submit for possible inclusion on the programme.

Subjects of particular interest to FILK and co-organiser VGCT (Germany’s leather chemists’ society) include alternative technologies for leather production, sustainable raw materials, innovative processing technologies, automation and machinery and artisan tanneries in the age of Industry 4.0.

There is a tool for submitting ideas quickly and easily online. Interested parties have until March 13 to send their ideas.
