Triple-digit growth for US beef exports to China
The US exported 33,000 tonnes of beef to China in the first 11 months of 2020, according to official figures from the US Department of Agriculture. These shipments brought in export revenues of $237.8 million.
Compared to the same months in 2019, these figures represent an increase of 277% in volume and of 239% in value.
According to the US Meat Export Federation, shipments of beef to China started to increase after the implementation in March of the US-China Phase One Economic and Trade Agreement. But it said growth had been particularly strong since mid-summer when there was a rebound in the food-service sector in China.
Since September, the US has been China’s number-one source of imported beef, beating Australia.
