Creative director loves products that are made for life

Heritage leathergoods brand Tanner Krolle has named Tabitha Simmons as its new creative director.

A saddle-maker from Germany, Fredrich Krolle, founded the brand in London in 1856 and in the decades that followed it gained a strong reputation for making high-end bags, suitcases and trunks.

Famous frequent travellers who developed a fondness for Tanner Krolle luggage have included Jackie Onassis, Cary Grant, David Beckham, Diana Princess of Wales and Sir David Attenborough.

The brand says that 94-year-old film-maker and environmental campaigner Sir David received a set of Tanner Krolle luggage for his twenty-first birthday and is still using some of the pieces.

Under new ownership since last year, when London-based One Luxury Group took over, the brand will now have the creative leadership of Tabitha Simmons, who is best known for her footwear designs. “I love the idea of products being made for life,” Ms Simmons said in comments to the Financial Times.
