German leather manufacturer has new CEO
German tanning group Gmelich & Söhne has appointed Christian Wiesner as its new chief executive. He joined the company in October and will work closely with outgoing chief executive Volker Nagel before taking over in 2021. Mr Nagel will retire at the end of 2021.
Christian Wiesner joined Gmelich & Söhne from Salmet, a provider of equipment and technology to the poultry industry, where had been chief executive since 2007.
Volker Nagel became the chief executive of Gmelich & Söhne at the start of 2007. He took over from Sigrid Zerhusen, the daughter of one of the company’s founders, Hugo Gmelich. Ms Zerhusen, who died in 2011, had worked at the company for 60 years.
Gmelich & Söhne launched in 1923 in Großbottwar in Baden-Württemberg. A local business figure, Otto Gmelich, set it up with his sons, Hugo and Robert.
