Hermès’ speedy recovery means continued growth

22/10/2020
Luxury brand Hermès has reported a 7% rise in third quarter sales to €4.3 billion, a feat that allows chairman Axel Dumas to be confident despite the backdrop.

Like most brands, sales for second quarter were down on 2019 due to store closures because of the pandemic.

The return to growth was driven by “momentum in Asia”.

Online sales are also growing strongly and benefit from a new digital platform.

The company is opening production sites in Guyenne (Gironde) and Montereau (Seine-et Marne) in 2021, consolidating capacities in Normandy with the Louviers site (Eure) in 2022, and establishing a site in Ardennes in 2023.

A second production site in Auvergne has been announced, which will become its 22nd leathergoods and saddler workshop – all of which are based in France.

Mr Dumas said: "In 2020, we are seeing the affirmation of major strategic commitments with social and environmental responsibility, the digitalisation of uses and lifestyles, as well as positive market dynamics in Asia.

“Taking into account these profound and lasting changes allows us today to remain confident despite an uncertain future. Our good performance enables us to continue to invest and to create jobs. I would like to thank all the teams at Hermès who work daily to keep the house growing.”
