Vaccine will lead to new economic boom, Prada CEO says
The chief executive of luxury group Prada, Patrizio Bertelli, has said businesses need to be “proactive and positive” if they are to recover well from the covid-19 crisis.
In a recent interview with business newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore, Mr Bertelli said he was confident the market for fashion and leathergoods will recover and that demand for quality products in particular will grow.
In this, he insisted Italian brands and manufacturers have an advantage because beauty, taste, inventiveness are craftsmanship have always been part of the DNA of Italian companies. But he said the Italian government should appoint a “Made in Italy minister” to help drive the recovery.
Mr Bertelli said he was sure there would be not just a recovery but a new economic boom. “It will come the day after they announce a vaccine,” he said. “There will be a huge party in all parts of the world. There will be fireworks. It will be like New Year’s Eve. There will be a rush to travel again, to go back to New York, to Beijing, to Tokyo and to visit friends in faraway places. There will be an explosion of vitality everywhere and there will be a period of economic boom. It won’t be for just one day either; it will last months.”
