New range from Stahl focuses on leather upgrades
Leather chemicals group Stahl has announced a new portfolio of products aimed at at helping tanners upgrade the quality of the leather they produce.
Under the name Stahl EleGrade, the new portfolio of products can bring about the upgrade in quality without compromising the natural characteristics of the material.
Global technical director for leather at Stahl, Claus Reineking, said the products offer “improved performance properties, an efficient cost-benefit ratio and a versatile range in upgrading, from fine to high upgrading”.
He said the solutions are easy to use in “all conventional means of application”.
The range consists of three products: the Aquabase system, the Melio Ground system and the Mirage system.
Aquabase focuses on corrected grain or split leather with high performance. It is ideal for leather intended to be used for automotive, furniture, shoes and leathergoods. The Aquabase system works with hand application or reverse roll-coater machines, producing leather that Stahl describes as “smooth, elegant and durable”.
For its part, Melio Ground is a solution for pre-base or sealer-coats, ideal, the company says, for light and high-level upgrades to leather intended for furniture, shoes and leathergoods. It ensures efficient film formation while maintaining high levels of inter-coat adhesion. The resultant leather remains soft and flexible, Stahl says.
Finally, the Mirage system has reduced film formation to allow leather to retain its natural look and elegance. It is ideal for leathers with uneven surfaces, grain-off issues or mild defects, the company says.
The new range complies with the Zero Discharge to Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) manufacturing restricted substance list.
