Madewell steps into trainers with leather and suede
Madewell, the apparel and footwear brand launched by J. Crew in 2006, has stepped into the trainers arena with a pair of leather and suede sneakers.
While the company has already offered sandals, heels, boots and casual sneakers, this is the first pair of trainer-style shoes. The company said the Kickoff trainers’ leather uppers are made with leather sourced from a tannery that achieved a Gold Rating from the Leather Working Group. The cotton lining and rubber outsoles are made of recycled materials.
Last year, J. Crew Group had plans to spin off Madewell with an initial public offering. In March of this year, Forbes reported that the group was suspending the IPO after failing to reach a deal with creditors.
