Student wins Drapers award with interlocking leather

A student from the UK’s De Montfort University Leicester (DMU) was awarded first prize in a national footwear industry competition, making use of leather with an origami-inspired technique.

Brandon Haley won the title of Drapers Student Footwear Designer of the Year 2020, which was sponsored by Birkenstock. The shoe (pictured), according to DMU, was “inspired by Japanese origami, incorporating techniques of weaving and inter-locking leather”.
