Turkey expects slump in Eid-Al-Adha slaughter numbers

27/07/2020

Industry commentators in Turkey have said they expect a substantial decrease in the volume of cattle, sheep and goats slaughtered at the time of Eid-Al-Adha this year.

In 2020, the Muslim feast will take place between July 31 and August 3. Over the course of the same festival last year, celebrations in Turkey involved the slaughter of one million head of cattle and three million head of sheep and goats.

This year, because of covid-19, expectations are that the figures will be between 50% and 60% of that total.
