Orders for industrial leather gloves are up in India
As economic activity begins to resume in India, the country is experiencing a surge in orders for industrial leather gloves, particularly from mining companies around the world.
This is thought to be related to the fact that mining was declared an essential activity across major markets such as South America, Canada and South Africa, according to India’s Economic Times newspaper, which reported the surge in orders.
Ramesh Juneja, regional chairman of Council of Leather Exports, was quoted saying that the relaxation of lockdowns have allowed foreign buyers to resume their purchasing. Demand is up 20% compared to last July, he said.
He also said that most industrial leather gloves are produced in Kolkata and Chennai, made with hides of cow and buffalo imported from Brazil. When those raw materials are not available, he said, glove manufacturers can use hides of Indian cattle that die of natural causes.
