Tuscany’s Genuine Italian Vegetable Tanned Consortium (Il Consorzio Vera Pelle Italiana Conciata al Vegetale) has published a ten-point manifesto on sustainability.

While insisting that Tuscan veg-tanned leather “has always been sustainable”, the Consorzio has listed the sustainability criteria that the 52 tanners that make up its membership adhere to in producing their collections.

The criteria cover where the Consorzio’s leather is made, the raw material and processes the tanners use, the certification, social responsibility and environmental programmes they subscribe to, their commitment to workers’ rights and to circular economy principles in production and in waste management.
