Our Leather Pipeline report considers what the demand for leather will be following the summer break, after conceding that the coronavirus pandemic has merely exacerbated problems that were already there.

Rather than it being seen as a ‘nail in the coffin’, he suggests the industry redouble efforts to target consumers with the message leather is a much better option than alternatives – both in terms of the environment and as a material in itself.

“We must engage in face-to-face battles and use personal knowledge and enthusiasm to change people’s minds,” he says.

There appears to be good news from the automotive sector, with production picking up, and the author believes there could a bright spot in the upholstery industry. People are not spending as much on holidays and might instead choose to upgrade their homes – with leather sofas potentially on the shopping list.
