Release paper line will help tanners keep to ZDHC commitment, Sappi says

Paper technology developer Sappi has launched what it calls an industry first, a casting paper range, Ultracast Viva, that is compatible with solvent-free systems.

The company’s Casting and Release division described the new range as a textured release paper line that customers, including tanners, will be able to use Ultracast Viva to imprinted special pat-terns and decorative effects onto hides.

In this case, they will be able to apply these effects without compromising commitments to reducing chemical waste and pollution, Sappi said, such as those that companies that have joined the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) programme have undertaken.

It added that the new product line would also offer performance improvements, including reduced curl, increased reusability and easier handling. It developed the new release paper range at its Westbrook Mill in Maine.
