Turkey hopes to benefit from footwear shift
Industry commentators in Turkey have said the domestic footwear industry should take encouragement from talk of a desire for change in supply set-ups when restrictions imposed by covid-19 clear.
This centres on the belief that major markets such as the US and the European Union may want to source less footwear from China than in recent years and will increase the volume of shoes they import from alternative sources.
In the short term, shoe manufacturers in Turkey could look forward to receiving a big enough boost in orders to allow them to increase their production capacity. This would also benefit suppliers of leather and footwear components too.
In the medium term, though, there is speculation that Turkey could be an ideal place for overseas investors to put funding into the mass production of footwear.
