January increase in footwear and leathergoods imports in Japan

Japan’s leather industry registered imports of hides and finished leather with a value of $14.9 million in the first month of 2020, a decrease of 14.9% compared to the same month in 2019. Exports of leather went up by 21% to $8.9 million.

Imports of handbags and other leathergoods increased by 6.2% to reach $66.3 million.
Footwear imports went up by 5.2% to reach $60.5 million and, at the same time, Japan exported footwear with a value of $5.3 million, an increase of 33.4%.
