Let dealers sell cars again, German automotive industry body begs
The president of German automotive industry association VDA, Hildegard Müller, has written to the country’s head of government, Chancellor Angela Merkel, to request that car showrooms be allowed to sell vehicles to the public again.
Ms Müller argued in her letter, dated April 9, that it would be easier to keep to health and hygiene restrictions at a car showroom than at a supermarket. She said car showrooms usually have more space and fewer people and that, therefore, it would be easier for employees and customers to maintain social-distancing requirements.
If car sales were allowed to go ahead again, this would give a much-needed kick-start to automotive production. Car factories, too, would be in a good position to maintain a safe distance between people, Ms Müller said
